Success By 6: Supporting Families
Goal: “All parents and guardians of children in our community have the skills and resources needed to ensure that their children are safe, healthy, nurtured and prepared to succeed in school.”
The most important influence in the development of young children is their families. We work to support families’ efforts to ensure success for their children in two ways. First, we want all families to fully understand the critical role they play as their child’s first and best teacher. Second, we want families to have the skills and resources necessary to successfully fulfill that role as first teacher. When families have the knowledge, skills, and resources required to engage as their child’s first and best teacher, they become the most successful strategy for ensuring that children are prepared to enter kindergarten.
Early Literacy Project
The Early Literacy Project is an effort designed to help boost the nurturing, reading experiences of very young children in our community. Through partnerships with home visitation programs, parents are encouraged to read to their children every day. In addition, families receive a series of five books to help establish their home libraries. Over the past year, the number of families reading to their children everyday has increased over 20%.
This project is conducted in partnership with:
