Shelby County Preschool Book Drive Recipients

4.23.09 - Over the last several months, Shelby County Preschool has used books it received from the 2008 Borders Book Drive to give away to its students.  In November, the Preschool planned “Grandparents Day” in which the children’s grandparents spent time with them at school and read with the children.  At the end of the day, all 50 children were able to keep the books they read with their grandparents that day.  Most recently, Shelby County Preschool coordinated a financial literacy workshop for parents with Commonwealth Bank & Trust.  While parents learned skills like budgeting and banking, their children enjoyed a story hour and games.  In all, 41 parents and 60 children participated in the event, and all 60 children were able to take home books at the end of the night.

In all, 10 organizations in Shelby County received nearly 1000 books from the Borders Book Drive.  All the books have been distributed to children in Shelby County.
